Product Description

Synopsis

This text combines the coding for diseases and the appropriate operations; both are listed alphabetically under their main anatomical headings. The two source books are the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases, 9th Edition (1975) and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS) Tabular List of the Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures, 4th Revision, consolidated version 1990, published by HMSO. Since it is obligatory for all patient discharges to be coded, and since the doctor is the person who knows best which disease and surgical procedure were involved, a simplified system is required which covers the majority of hospital events. This concise guide is compatible with the original detailed source books and combines them in a convenient format. It also changes some of the complicated descriptions of diseases and operations into the simpler terms found in the indexes of textbooks of surgery of pathology. Complications are added as a separate section and must also be coded. Further codes can be added from the source books as required, because obviously this concise book does not include all diseases and operations. The main purpose of this book is to make coding easier and more meaningful. This book should be of interest to surgeons and urologists, and hospital administrators.
