this book holds you by your hand and covers the very basics. it doesnt even go into any depth with many of the fundamentals such as linked lists. its also very very very bad as a referance. i read an excellent introductory book called the essence of programming using c++ by douglass bell, and then bought this as the next step up. but i tossed it to one side and went straight to c++ primer by lippman & lajoie, which although is a little hard to read, does cover everything in detail, and id good as a referance aswell. i think horstman's book may be more orientated to an american style of learning, maybe.
