A fascinating book which deals with the background beliefs of a wide variety of Christian groups and cults. But it is very dated now and does not deal with any 'modern' splits, scisms or cults within Christianity. A very good read as far as it goes but it needs a thorough update. I suspect that some of these groups dealt with in the book have now ceased to exist, but may well have reappeared in a more modern guise. I have given it three stars simply because of the need for a modern revision to make it more interesting for todays readers.

Have found this book thoroughly enthralling. Have been looking at differing groups and their special ways and tenets for many years but am still learning. This book is somewhat dated but in being so helps one realise how the groups which remain evolved from their core tenets and their different schisms.

Yawn inducing! 26 Jan 2012

Written in 1850 something, this is a catalogue of the structure & differences of the major & minor ( mostly Christian) religions of North America. There are a few delightful mentions of Heathens etc. A mammoth undertaking in the days before t'internet.

However, it is heavy going and does not flow. This would be useful to anyone researching Theological matters, but no use to Mr Average I am afraid.
Totally yawn inducing and took me over a week to get about 60% through it.
