5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book to read while your sitting on the pot., 12 May 1999
By A Customer
This book was well worth the wait. Whether you want to buy a system, or build one, if it's not covered in this book, then chances are it doesn't exist. It covers wet and dry toilets, self-contained composters and also cental units. What I like about this book is that it discusses the pros and cons of each type of design in a very straight forward manner. The authors did a very nice job on this book. If you ever plan on, or are even thinking about a compost toilet system, buy this one now. I leave my copy on my coffee table for guests, it always stirs up a conversation. No sh_t....

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and sensible overview of composting toliets., 3 Jan 2002
By d.d.b@btinternet.com (Monmouthshire, U.K.) - See all my reviews
This volume will enable the comsumer to make an informed choice as to the suitability of a composting toilet system for a dwelling. The book gives full details of the systems available from self-build to commercially available, with due deference to climate and geographical variations.
Technical details are integrated into the book, including specialist data. This is thorough review of both the advantages and disadvantages of the various sytems and the practical limits of use. Most of the user reviews are from the USA, and the 'state regulations' obviously apply only to the USA.
Getting back to basics, there are usful sections on pathogen control and heat treatment of the end products, as well as greywater treatment. The implications of carbon nitrogen ratios are clearly discussed and the practicalities of separating waste products.
A usful reference and source book.
