Book Description

If you are looking to get the best out of your organic vegetable growing efforts in the form of healthy and abundant crops, then you NEED a good nutrient-rich growing medium - otherwise all your efforts, love and attention are likely to be in vain. This is where an understanding of composting techniques can reap top results.

Whether you are a keen vegetable gardener or someone seeking to get the best out of otherwise waste material, composting or a knowledge of how to produce good compost, can play a pivotal role in your efforts to be more productive in either field.

As the benefits regarding good composting practices, both for individuals and local authorities, becomes obvious with regard to abundant vegetables and reducing material going into land-fills; composting has become 'sexy' in a way that it has never been before.

Now city dwellers and country folks alike, keen to be a part of this "organic vegetable growing revolution" have embraced the concept of composting and as a result, healthier organic vegetables leading to healthier bodies and lifestyles are being enjoyed by many.

What you will find in this publication is an introduction to some of the most popular techniques used to convert waste organic matter into tremendous valuable composting material.

Five different techniques are explored and explained including:
Hot and Cold Composting:
This chapter explains in layman's terms just exactly what hot and cold composting actually means in practice.

Layer Composting:
Also known as lasagna composting, this technique is often used to control weeds as well as feed the plants with extra nutrients.

Bokashi Composting:
Normally dairy and meat products cannot be added to the compost heap owing to the risks posed by purification, not to mention flies and vermin! Not so with Bokashi - bring on the dairy!

Worms may creep you out a bit - but there is no doubt that they do make excellent compost! Check out this article on how to get the best out of your worms in your own worm-farm compost.

More About the Author

Born in 1958 into a family of 9 children, I enjoy writing about many subjects from home improvement to gardening to religeous studies (I trained for the ministry). I have spent many years in the building trade, running my own business and so have extensive knowledge from that angle.

Hobbies include gardening, fly fishing and playing guitar. Still trying to get my head around this whole Kindle thing, but enjoying the journey !

Out of them, gardening has without a doubt become my focus of late - even though growing vegetables in a cold Northern climate can be a a bit of a challenge at times, !

My latest books on various gardening techniques from growing berries to composting to Raised Bed, Straw Bale and Square Foot gardening, are a testament to my on-going battle with the elements to successfully grow vegetables that are on the main, suitable for these cooler climates.

Looking forward to this years harvest :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good "basic" tips and guide for composting. 4 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a quick read and certainly does not pretend to cover 10,000 secret tips on how to become a composting guru.

That being said it's nicely presented on the kindle and gives good, practical advice on how to get things done.

I certainly am no expert but I've picked up quite a few "I want to try that next time" ideas.

Worth the half hour or so properly reading it ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starting point. 18 Jun. 2014

As a novice to the whole gardening thing, I found this book to be informative and well thought out. As the title suggests, it lays out a foundation where only experience, and maybe a little more reading, can build on.
This book seems to cover all the different types of compost and what each entails. There are pictures, though small, that help illustrate what the book is explaining.
I highly recommend this book if you are considering making your own compost.

I didn't learn anything new because I've been reading a lot about composting already. I think it's a very good book for someone starting to be interested in composting. Also good for refreshing your memory.
