This hardcover print-on-demand book com stage production manual documents "The Composer and The Nightingale", a musical drama in six acts for narrator, piano and two sopranos (or soprano and mezzo soprano). The book is handcrafted with leather-binding in a numbered and signed edition with recto-printed pages. Income donated to the Icons of Europe TB Fund.
The drama chronicles the newly-discovered romance of the ailing Chopin and the celebrated soprano Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale - alternating with music by Chopin, Bellini and Meyerbeer and with two of Jenny Lind's Scandinavian signature-songs. Each act unfolds by the narrator citing some of Chopin's letters to family and friends in 1848-1849. The letters mirror to a surprising degree quotes taken from Hans Christian Andersen's "The Nightingale", the fairytale he wrote as a tribute to Jenny Lind in 1843.
The book provides a description of the cast, the complete script in English, the music repertoire, five sets of rare scores (including Jenny Lind's arrangement of Chopin's Mazurka in A-flat, op. 24, n° 3), images illustrating each act, material and lessons from earlier performances, and other background information.
The book could be used as a manual for a royalty-free stage production of "The Composer and The Nightingale" under certain copyright terms. The appeal of this musical drama is confirmed by the premieres at Brussels, Warsaw, Toronto and New York in 2003-2008 - "it brings out the seamlessness of great European culture". The music provides flexibility for a performance of 60-75 minutes. An audience of 50-500 people is recommended. The script could be commissioned in other languages from the playwrights Cecilia and Jens Jorgensen, authors of the biography "Chopin and The Swedish Nightingale".
