Round the Twist is arguably the best ever supernatural comedy drama series (especially series 1&2) being in turns funny, moving, and intriguing. A show with a heart about children who care for the environment, for the many lost souls they encounter (ghosts or people and animals) and for their fellow humans (excluding the Gribbles!)

As for the UK DVD box set. The good news for those who suffered the indignities of the BBC cutting off the out-take sequences at the end of each episode is that the episodes are complete and uncut, each has its own unique and interesting end sequence.

The bad news is that some scenes suffer some compression artefacts due to some scenes having noticable film grain which is hard to compress digitally. Bitrate is about 6Mb/s, but the dual-layer DVDs had room for 7-8Mb/s: they should have used it). Having said that, not many scenes are affected and you probably won't notice them unless you have a TV set with very good definition.

The packaging is cheapskate. The "box" set is not a box, more a stiff plastic wrapper which you will have to throw away as it is not usable as a storage box. The 8 DVDs themeselves are packed into 4 poorly designed DVD cases which force you to remove one DVD to access the other. The cover designs are boring, not a patch on the original Australian packaging (I can't understand why they changed it).

In summary, this is a brilliant series; the DVDs do the job of bringing it to you at an economical price, but if you want nice packaging etc buy the Australian DVDs instead.

This is an excellent series, as anyone who saw it the first time around will remember. The comedy ranges from corny to crude, but not over the top. Wether you buy this for nostalgic reasons or for your kids, one thing is certain, you will not be disappointed. Well worth the money.

great box set! 11 Mar 2011
Format:DVD
This was one of the best programmes I remember as a kid, because it was downright weird and insane fun for kids. And then I discovered that there was a series 3 and 4 made in my late young adult years, so naturally, I couldn't resist buying the box set! and I don't regret it one little bit. The review earlier on saying that the dvd boxset was packed in cardboard, wasn't entirely correct, beacuse mine came in a dvd jewel case with plastic turn-page compartments and it contains the dvds very safely. either that was an older model of the box set? but what an investment!
