Reviews

Completely Round The Twist is the whole crazy tale of Tony Twist (the long suffering dad) and his three children, 14 year-old twins Pete and Linda and 8 year-old Bronson, who all move into an old lighthouse on the rugged Australian coast. Of course the lighthouse is haunted, but that is only the start of the family s adventures.

Adapted from the imaginative stories of Paul Jennings, Round The Twist became renowned for its outlandish mysteries and the outrageous, slapstick comedy adventures of the wacky Twist family.

First broadcast in the early 1990s from the BBC Broom Cupboard, this classic kids TV series was a must see for all the family and is fondly remembered by kids young and old! If you loved Dogtanian and Willy Fog, do not miss the complete madcap adventures of the Twist family!

Round the Twist is arguably the best ever supernatural comedy drama series (especially series 1&2) being in turns funny, moving, and intriguing. A show with a heart about children who care for the environment, for the many lost souls they encounter (ghosts or people and animals) and for their fellow humans (excluding the Gribbles!)

As for the UK DVD box set. The good news for those who suffered the indignities of the BBC cutting off the out-take sequences at the end of each episode is that the episodes are complete and uncut, each has its own unique and interesting end sequence.

The bad news is that some scenes suffer some compression artefacts due to some scenes having noticable film grain which is hard to compress digitally. Bitrate is about 6Mb/s, but the dual-layer DVDs had room for 7-8Mb/s: they should have used it). Having said that, not many scenes are affected and you probably won't notice them unless you have a TV set with very good definition.

The packaging is cheapskate. The "box" set is not a box, more a stiff plastic wrapper which you will have to throw away as it is not usable as a storage box. The 8 DVDs themeselves are packed into 4 poorly designed DVD cases which force you to remove one DVD to access the other. The cover designs are boring, not a patch on the original Australian packaging (I can't understand why they changed it).

In summary, this is a brilliant series; the DVDs do the job of bringing it to you at an economical price, but if you want nice packaging etc buy the Australian DVDs instead.

This was one of the best programmes I remember as a kid, because it was downright weird and insane fun for kids. And then I discovered that there was a series 3 and 4 made in my late young adult years, so naturally, I couldn't resist buying the box set! and I don't regret it one little bit. The review earlier on saying that the dvd boxset was packed in cardboard, wasn't entirely correct, beacuse mine came in a dvd jewel case with plastic turn-page compartments and it contains the dvds very safely. either that was an older model of the box set? but what an investment!

This is an excellent series, as anyone who saw it the first time around will remember. The comedy ranges from corny to crude, but not over the top. Wether you buy this for nostalgic reasons or for your kids, one thing is certain, you will not be disappointed. Well worth the money.

I grew up with Round the Twist being broadcast on the BBC. While I don't remember really being into the show as a kid, nostalgia is a funny thing and it's great to be able to watch these all again. It's a brilliantly surreal and funny show that even kids today should be able to enjoy. Definitely one to get if you loved the show as a kid, and if I had children of my own I would raise them on imaginative shows like this instead of most of the junk kids are subjected to today.

The quality of the recordings is not too bad. A few flaws here and there, but so far nothing that has distracted from the enjoyment of the show. I haven't been through all the discs yet though, having only received the set today, so I can't speak for later episodes.

I've seen some reviews comment on the design of the case. The case I received is very good. Perhaps the design was updated? The case I received is one box, about the thickness of two regular DVD cases. It holds 8 discs. Two in the cover, with the other 6 on three plastic flaps. The design allows for easy access to all discs. There is no need to remove one disc to access another. If there is any flaw with the design it is that you do have to make sure the clips line up when closing the case. Not a huge problem though.

Overall, a great set.

Sometimes you worry that childhood nostalgia actually reveals the things you love to be God awful in the cold light of day when you're a few years wiser. Luckily Round the Twist is still as brilliant and madcap as it was.

This well written and acted, spooky silliness has me grinning with every episode.
I was an adult when this program was first shown on TV, yet I was glued to the set, waiting for each and every episode. Now, at 57 I am enjoying the cream off the top of the Australian TV, yet again.
My only sorrow is that I never managed to get the theme tune, but joy of joys, this box set has a sing along version included!

I brought this for my 11 year old daughter for xmas, as i had such good memories of it as a child my only disappointment was the charecters are changed half way through the boxset as i liked the original linda, pete, Tiger rabbit etc.. so we had to adjust when watching the rest of the dvds .. other than that she really enjoyed watching them :)
