Dr Hook and the Medicine show (as they were originally named) combined country and rock music with a dash of humor. They began with a major international hit, Sylvia's mother, which was about a man pleading over the telephone to be allowed to speak to Sylvia, hoping that she would come back to him, but her mother wouldn't let him. Another notable songs from their Medicine show period is Cover of the Rolling stone (about the front cover of a magazine).

After shortening their name to Dr Hook, they released their strongest album (A little bit more) and had a major international hit with the title track. Other major hits followed including If not you, More like the movies, When you're in love with a beautiful woman, Better love next time and Sexy eyes.

This compilation includes all their UK hits and several other interesting songs. If you enjoy seventies pop-country music with a bit of humor, you might enjoy this.

Back in the seventies we had Dr Hook's "Greatest Hits" album and it got lost somewhere along the way so I wanted to get the CD. My favourite track back then was "More Like the movies". This is not on the CD version of that album, luckily, on reading a customer review I found that I would need to get "Completely Hooked" in order to get all the original 17 tracks plus a bonus 2 more. Needless to say I am still completely hooked. A great album it makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you happy and it makes you wanna dance!! Enjoy.

Format:Audio CD
An excellent album "Listenable To" either as background music or something to help you relax. Lots of favourites which the band are so good at, comic as well as serious and romantic. Lyrics you can hear which will make you think and occasionally smile. No headbanging here just good honest music which is occasionally just a tad askew from the mainstream. Something for everyone to enjoy....

As good as I remembered it
I had most of these songs on tape years ago and hadn't heard them for a long time. They are still great tracks which are fun and easy listening.

lost cd
still never received this disc after getting an e'mail stating it has been despatched more than two weeks ago!!!

Oh for a bit of nostalgia.....
I've always been a great fan of Dr. Hook, and have actually got the LP containing these tracks. So now I have the CD as well. It's great. Love it.

Afraid this was merely a Christmas present for the wife because she had seen Dr Hook as a wee girl in the eighties. I also liked them because of the guy who looked like a pirate. Read more
