Book Description

3 July 2012
TWO BESTSELLERS NOW AVAILABLE IN ONE COMPLETE VOLUME! Bringing together the ukulele beginners guides, 'What Ukulele Players Really Want To Know' and 'More Of What Ukulele Players Really Want To Know' in one handy volume. The Complete What Ukulele Players Really Want To Know! Over 50 detailed chapters aimed at advising new ukulele players on the things that most tutor books leave out, with everything from how to hold the uke, fingernail care, to basic theory and advice on practice regimes. Want advice on cases, on performing, on types of wood? Look no further. What about electronics, how to tune up, advice on strings - that's covered too. In fact, just about everything a new player will think about is in here. This is NOT a how to play book or a song book, but has been called an 'owners manual for new players' -an answer to all those niggling questions that will hit you when you first start playing. Barry recommends that his guides are read alongside traditional tuition (whether you are learning online, from books or with a teacher) as a means to supplement your all round knowledge of the uke! And don't worry! If you prefer one or other of the original books they are still available and always will be!

About the Author

Barry is a well known player in the ukulele community and founder of the website Got A Ukulele, now one of the most popular resources for new ukulele players. For the past 25 years he dabbled with acoustic and electric guitar, but was switched on to the ukulele several years ago on account of a number of his musical heroes championing the uke (the likes of George Harrison and Loudon Wainwright III amongst others). Like most beginners, Barry started with a cheap and nasty uke which was a struggle to play, so he started to explore better quality instruments. The more he played, the more he enjoyed this humble little instrument and decided to start sharing his experiences on the internet. The response was massive with the site being hugely popular today. He doesn't so much write about 'how to play', but rather shares his love of the instrument and provides advice to new players on how to live with a ukulele. He doesn't class himself as a great player, just a strummer but has an infectious love for the instrument and a desire to help other new players who are just starting out. Following the success of the blog he was persuaded to put down his best tips and advice for new players into a series of books. They hit the shelves at just the right time with great success (his first book going on to become the best selling music book on Kindle at one point in 2011) The ukulele really is an instrument for everyone - its quick to pick up the basics (most beginners can easily be playing a simple song in 30 minutes) and it really gets people talking. Keep strumming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic stuff 21 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this after seeing Barry talk about it on his website. It's great for everyone and anyone, if you are a budding uke player (like me) or an old pro wanting to pick up a few tips. What I enjoy most about this book is that it is very different to all the other uke books you will find around for beginners, it doesn't tell you what you HAVE to do, which I find rather stifling and restricts you in terms of creativity, it merely gives you a helping hand in finding your own personal playing style.
The buying guide part of the books is priceless, as it comprehensive yet keeps an air of personality; you do not feel as if you are being lectured the whole time.

Barry's sense of humour keeps you entertained the entire read - it doesn't feel like a reference book, but it is just as informative. A brilliant read, I'd recommend this to anyone wishing to play the ukulele.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ukeulele ebook 7 Aug 2012
By Atlas
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Great book, full of information it could take weeks or months to find out by going to Uke clubs and jams. I play the 5 string banjo, so I am not new to music and chord shapes etc. but I found this book to be very helpful and entertaining. Well worth the money, especially if you are new to the Uke and have never played an instrument before. Buy it, it will be money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ukulele book - Kindle version 27 Mar 2013
By C. M.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Had a ukulele for a long time & mainly just played it every so often (being a guitar player). Then after hurting my left elbow and had to give the guitar a rest for a few months I picked up the ukulele again, this time to learn it well.
Down loaded the Kindle version - great, it's full of info. & tips etc. Pointed me towards Barry Maz (got a ukulele) web site - again a great source of info.
My only regret is I should have got the paper version (the Kindle is my wifes). For this type of info. I personally like a reference book in paper format so I can flick between chapters, also sometimes I want the Kindle at the same time my wife wants to use it.
This is my problem/choice.
So if you are just learning the ukulele this book is very good. - from buying a ukulele to looking after it. If you have played for a while its still got a few ideas.
Written in a good style with a passion for the ukulele.
