5.0 out of 5 stars A Wealth Of Harmony Riches! 7 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
What an absolute treat this is,two discs filled with great songs sung by one of the very best American vocal groups of the sixties.I first heard the Association in 1966 and have loved them ever since.
At the start of their career folk rock was the in thing and this is reflected in the first two tracks, perfectly okay but they didn't really give an indication of what was to come.It was the ultra cool "Along Comes Mary" with the distinctive harpsichord and guitar intro followed by Jim Yester's excellently fitting lead vocal, obscure(drug related?) lyrics and what was to become the trademark backing vocals that made everyone sit up and listen, as well as being their introduction to the US top ten.But something completely different was to come next, the follow up single was a beautiful slow love song sung by a different lead vocalist(Terry Kirkman) with a classy baritone voice - Cherish was nonetheless just as cool as "Mary" in it's own way and stayed at number 1 for weeks, ending up being one of the best selling singles of the year in America. The flipside "Don't Blame It On Me" was a real gem,a great number delivered with a passionate Russ Giguere lead vocal, the trumpet imitating backing vocals making you realise that these guys were very special. Then came the pyschedelic "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebies","Looking Glass" and the wonderful, heartbreaking "No Fair At All",sadly all minor hits but all lead by different vocalists - how many singers did this group have for heavens sake? Just as it was thought that the Association had had their day(two misses at the top ten usually spelt the end of the road in those days)along came Windy and placed the group back where they belonged, at the top of the US charts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mono Music by The Association! 9 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, whats great about this CD set is that most of the songs are in their original Mono Format. To me, WINDY can only be enjoyed in mono as the Lead Vocal at the end is up front rather than hidden in the back like it is in stereo. Very nice booklet and absolutely necessary even if you have the "Just The Right Sound" double CD Anthology Set. Well Mastered music and just plain enjoyable. This is a Digi pack issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Harmony Pop 16 Dec 2012
Format:Audio CD
Outstanding release compiled by the great Steve Stanley. The Association made some superb sunshine pop singles and this Mono collection is definitive. Great front cover too. Superb stuff from now sounds.

3.0 out of 5 stars all the best intentions.. 13 Jun 2012
By LBS
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
i love the association, and i know "now sounds" have the best of intentions, and the packaging and liner notes with comments by the band themselves and friends can't be faulted, the only trouble is the compilation itself is largely irrelevent. the problem is all the songs are available elsewhere and the band's greatest songs are not confined to their single releases. of course, all the big hits are great but you won't find "come on in" or "barefoot gentlemen" here. the fold-down mono mixes are pointless because the association sound better in stereo and believe me i can be as big a mono-snob as anybody when the music really does sound better. i'm not saying you shouldn't buy this, but as an owner of most of their LPs it adds nothing to my collection..
