Kreisler was famed for his beautiful tone and cultured phrasing. Here he uses both of these to beguiling effect, but to them are added strong structural control, fiery energy where appropriate and a sure sense of pacing. The recordings are very old, the piano sounds dim and rather vague, but the ear adjusts and these fine performances continue to give pleasure through their wisom and beauty. They offer insights into music which seemed familiar ; they cast new light on it. The transfers are excellent, as always with Naxos. Highly recommended.
