Product Description

Review

"The verses sing a multitude of memories. The wonder is, in finding them all collected, how profuse and pure a genius is here displayed" (Evelyn Waugh Spectator)

"What he possessed above all, as a versifier, was a remarkable technical adroitness, a ready talent for witty ideas and a gift for ironical and understated phrasemaking. He wears extremely well" (Roy Fuller Daily Telegraph)

Book Description

The complete comic verse of one of the wittiest poets in the English language, spanning the full range of his poetry from children's rhymes to political satire.

Here are these amusing poems which one wants to read slowly and with pleasure, to savour, and the print is fuzzy, as if printed on wet paper. In these days of computer setting, printing a book that looks Xeroxed is unforgivable. Don't buy this book.

Very impressed with this book of Sussex poet Hilaire Belloc's poems. Would be nice in a hard back version though.

Man of many sides. The cautionary tales are very funny amd about, not for, children. Also political, satyrical and religious works are very thoughtprovoking. I like it.
