I bought this on the recommendation of a friend who said she had lost almost a stone in weight in two weeks. I only wanted to lose 10 pounds so thought it was worth a go - a looming beach holiday gave me the incentive to stick to it! I did the diet to the letter and miraculously lost a pound a day in the first week and about half a pound a day in the second week - and I felt great. The two week induction diet is a low carb (not almost no-carb like the Atkins), low fat (again, not like the Atkins one) diet - it consists of strict daily menus which vary and include fruit, lean unprocessed meat, fish, shellfish, salads, vegetables, cheese, egg, and a small allowance of bread (I substituted a half slice of toasted wholemeal or Bergen bread for the prescribed "protein bread" which is unavailable here unless you want to make it yourself). After the two weeks is up you can eat all of the above as you please, with a few extra things added in (even a glass of wine!).
In short it seems to me to be a healthy quick-loss diet option - it didn't leave me hungry and it works!

This book has it all. It guides you through two weeks worth of good easy eating, and then helps you stay on the straight and narrow. As I already have said I've lost two stone and feel great. Would recommend this book to anyone who like me has tried them all. ***** 5 stars!

My mum did this diet in the seventies and still raves about it to this day. I decided to give it a go (after much nagging from her about how big I was becoming) and I have to say I've been really impressed with the results. I lost a stone in two weeks, my skin has cleared up and I've found it easy to keep on going. In essence the diet is low carb but not nearly as extreme as Atkins. Lots of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, salad, fruit and vegetables. The first two weeks are very prescriptive when you can only eat the food on the diet menu although there's no portion control or having to weigh anything. After the first fortnight it becomes a lot less restrictive. If you want to lose weight but don't like going hungry I'd definitely recommend this book.

This is the first reducing diet that I have followed properly, on the recommendation of a friend who told me I would lose 7lbs in one week.
I only had 10lbs or so to lose and had made sporadic dieting attempts before to no avail and was about to go on holiday so gave it a shot as a last ditch attempt to improve my appearance.
It worked! I lost weight (7lbs) quickly in the first week and although this slowed down in the second week (3lbs) I was delighted, if somewhat mystified, by my success!
This diet really does work if you follow it to the letter and don't cheat - it was unbelievable every day when I stood on the scales - without fail I weighed a pound less each day in the first week. I have now also done the diet a second time to lose a few extra pounds that have crept back (unfortunately I do love good food and wine!) and it has been as successful as the first time.
Try it! You'll be amazed at the results. And I think it's a much healthier diet than the Atkins one, especially if you're worried about your cholesterol level.

I have personally utilized the Scarsdale diet and found it to not only cause substantial weight loss but I felt increased energy and control over my physical condition. I have had many friends and family follow the plan over the past fifteen years with equal success and satisfaction. The recommended foods are abundant variety that is not boring. You are not required to weigh and measure the portions, which makes it easier to follow. And the book offers so many other menus to meet any need. I highly recommend this plan to anyone serious about losing weight.

The diet is palletable, has a wide variety of foods, that change daily, (with the exception of breakfat) . The diet was highly recommended to me and I came back on line after one week and 8 pounds to purchase a copy for my sister. I recommend that you read the book in it's entirety however before beginning. I plan on using this long term.(3 months) as I wish to lose up to 60 pounds. What a Find!!!!

I first used this book back in the 80's. What I would give to be at that starting weight now! It is a very strict diet but it does work if you follow the instructions. It is not intended for long term use as the food variety is too limited but if you want to lose weight fast for a special occassion this is the one!

This diet is truly unbelievable, I'm on my 4th day and I've lost 5lbs!!! The skirt I wore at the weekend is actually hanging off my waist. I don't know how this diet works but to anyone out there who is as miserable as I was over carrying around extra weight in the hot weather - YOU MUST TRY THIS! Not only will you be amazed at the results, the increase in energy and good spirits I've also found has been an extra bonus. Looking and good and feeling great, who could ask for more? I haven't felt hungry and depsite craving a packet of crisps on the second day, this diet has been easy so far. The results happen so quickly - you won't want to cheat. TRY IT!
