This book really is the ultimate guide for any horse rider - it takes you right through the steps to success with any horse, from beginning, to advanced showjumping, dressage and eventing. It has loads of great sections and totally new areas which I haven't seen covered in any other books before, such as rider fitness and excercises for flexibility, as well as reams of information on how to THINK, and how mental preparation can make all the difference to your competetive performance. The diagrams and graphics are really clever and unlike any other books I've seen before (and trust me, I own a lot of horse books!!) I've also found the troubleshooting sections very helpful in overcoming little problems with my horse. In this massive book, William Micklem seems to have covered it all. This is the best book on my shelf!!

This book is useful for every standard of rider, from beginner to seasoned veteran- especially the chapter on how to fall off correctly! There are chapters on basic riding, training the horse, and the specialist disciplines of dressage, showjumping and cross country. There are also excellent sections on the rider's balance and fitness.
The beautiful pictures and troubleshooting boxes reinforce the clear, straightforward text to make this an essential for any rider's bookshelf.

For less than the cost of a live lesson, this is a bedside, or loo-side companion to take you from beginner to seasoned competitor to last a lifetime. Heavy-weight information is presented with a light touch which is logical and clear, and for those of who find any reading hard work, the photographs complement the text and help you find in moments the part you want to revise. A true horseman's bible.

It's really a big guide for horse riders. It includes everything about riding, rider and horses. If you are a new beginner, this is the right book. If you are a show jumper, this again the right book. If you are an advanced instructer, again this is the right book. Dressage, show jumping, troubleshooting, self improvement for a rider, and more are all in this book. It is a very useful book. You shoul dhave it in your library.

I am just starting to learn to ride and found this book very informative. I like the way it covers lots of different topics right from your first lesson up to more advanced subjects. I also like the way it covered different disciplines and gave you an intro into Dressage, jumping etc. There are so many similar horse books out there for a beginner but i think this one is worth the money as its a good all rounder!

As a non horsey person, I would have to say that this book is fabulous, so detailed, well photographed and plenty of diagrams.
Yes, you've guessed it - I bought this book for a very young relative of mine and she loved it!!
So if you know someone that loves horses and just learning to ride - this is the book to buy!!

I bought this book as I have just started riding again after a 15 year break and a being a bit of a novice wished to remind myself about the equine world and the in's and out's of riding. The book covers all riding from getting on the horse and basic riding through to jumping and dressage. It has a lot of information on each small subject, trouble shooting ideas on how to treat and prevent bad behaviour and common faults from the rider. It is a big read but is full of valueble guidance and advice. Glad I bought it.

I found this book whilst browsing in a bookshop in France and as soon as I opened it I had to buy it. It has sections on everything from starting out to top level competition. I goes into surprisingly a lot of detail considering the range of subjects covered. The pages are bright and colourful with lots of photos and diagrams making the book as easy to flick through as it is to read from start to finish. In my opinion its the best book out there if you're looking for an all round horse riding manual.
