This book really is the ultimate guide for any horse rider - it takes you right through the steps to success with any horse, from beginning, to advanced showjumping, dressage and eventing. It has loads of great sections and totally new areas which I haven't seen covered in any other books before, such as rider fitness and excercises for flexibility, as well as reams of information on how to THINK, and how mental preparation can make all the difference to your competetive performance. The diagrams and graphics are really clever and unlike any other books I've seen before (and trust me, I own a lot of horse books!!) I've also found the troubleshooting sections very helpful in overcoming little problems with my horse. In this massive book, William Micklem seems to have covered it all. This is the best book on my shelf!!

This book is useful for every standard of rider, from beginner to seasoned veteran- especially the chapter on how to fall off correctly! There are chapters on basic riding, training the horse, and the specialist disciplines of dressage, showjumping and cross country. There are also excellent sections on the rider's balance and fitness.
The beautiful pictures and troubleshooting boxes reinforce the clear, straightforward text to make this an essential for any rider's bookshelf.

Well worth buying 23 Dec 2004

Format:Hardcover
For less than the cost of a live lesson, this is a bedside, or loo-side companion to take you from beginner to seasoned competitor to last a lifetime. Heavy-weight information is presented with a light touch which is logical and clear, and for those of who find any reading hard work, the photographs complement the text and help you find in moments the part you want to revise. A true horseman's bible.

Very Comprehensive & Well Illustrated
I bought this book for my daughter who is an avid rider. It's interesting that she tends to dip into it for thirty minutes or so rather than read it from cover to cover.
