For just a little over 6£ you get 9 great albums from Mingus who is one of the most important, interesting and enjoyable talents in Jazz at the dizzying height of his powers as a bassist, as a band leader and as a composer.

You do not get art work, album break downs etc. I was not able to identify which album the first few tracks come from but for the rest

Tracks 7-10 The Clown - This is one of my very favorite Mingus albums - it features Haitian Fight Song which i just love and the rest of the album is just incredible. The fourth track features a vocal narration that was I think part improvised - it makes for a very enjoyable listen although I sometimes dont want to play it with the other tracks on the album, but seperately instead

11-17 Mingus Three - an enjoyable album well worth owning and listening to although not one of my favorites.

18-23 East Coasting - Less well known and less far out than other Mingus albums - It makes very enjoyable listening and a good contrast with his more boundary pushing efforts.

24-28 A Modern Jazz Symposium of Music and Poetry /Scenes in the City - Not played this album much but glad to have it.

29-37 - Ah Um - quite possibly his best and my favorite of his albums. This is the best single entry point into his music - sublime

38-41 Mingus in Wonderland - a solid live album

42-61 Harlem in Vogue - the poetry and jazz of Langston Hughes - An unusual inclusion in which Mingus devised backing jazz to compliment Hughes Reading some of his poems. Poetry and music is a very effective mix and Mingus' music effectively compliments the readings.
