'The achnowledge queen of detective fiction' Observer 'The empress of the crime novel' Sunday Express

Product Description

A brand new omnibus featuring Agatha Christie's favourite characters: Messrs Quin and Satterthwaite. Harley Quin is an enigma. He appears and disappears unexpectedly -- and usually by strange tricks of the light caused by stained-glass windows or flickering firelight. His background, family and friends are all a mystery -- his almost supernatural powers of detection are, however, very real. Mr Satterthwaite is altogether more normal -- fundamentally a snob, he lives the carefree lifestyle of a bachelor whilst indulging his hobbies. Yet, beneath this facade is a deep vein of loneliness that compels him to observe everyone and everything. Together they are an unstoppable, crime-fighting tour de force -- Sattherthwaite's skills of observation are honed by Quin's subtle questioning, bringing to light the most pertinent clues in any crime. With each acting as a catalyst for the other, the criminal fraternity had best beware! This volume brings all the Quin and Satterthwaite novels and short stories together for the first time, and showcases the pair's talents in a way that clearly explains why Agatha Christie herself was so fond of her creations: 'The Love Detectives'. Contains: The Mysterious Mr Quin Three-Act Tragedy Dead Man's Mirror The Love Detectives The Harlequin Tea Set

3.0 out of 5 stars A change from the norm for Agatha Christie, 4 Mar 2004

Suzanne Moore "Suzanne" (England) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Complete Quin and Satterthwaite: Love Detectives (Paperback)
This book has all the stories featuring Mr Satterthwaite and Mr Quin, the Mysterious Mr Quin, Three-Act-Tragedy, Dead Man's Mirror, The Love Detectives and The Harlequin Tea Set. Two of Agatha Christie's favourtie characters.

Mr Quin is a mysterious character who turns up and stands in the background giving out little hints and bringing important bits of information that would usually be ignored. Mr Satterthwaite is a slight snob who moves in the highest circles observing life and enjoying dramas.

The short stories in The Mysterious Mr Quin are wonderful, extremely clever at getting the reader and characters to see how if you look at something from a different angle in can put a whole new perspective on a situation.

Three-Act-Tragedy features Hercule Poriot with Mr Satterthwaite, it starts with a seemingly natural death of a vicar in which only a few people don't believe that the death is natural and are proved right when another man dies in practically the same way. A compelling story with a twist at the end that will surprise most readers although some people will figure it out.

The last three novels all run along a similar vein as the others. People looking at something one way then being shown another way to look at the evidence which gives it all new meaning.

Although these stories are different from Agatha Christie's normal mode of writing they do get a little predictable once you get used to the way the writer's mind worked while writing these stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Christie, 10 Mar 2010
By S. Moorthy "bludvlsadvocate" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Complete Quin and Satterthwaite: Love Detectives (Paperback)
Another one of Christie's intriguing detectives. A different twist on these stories, since not all have to do with murder, and some even don't have a crime! Great bed-side companion.
