Freely Associating with Mr Freud,

This review is from: Complete Psychological Works Of Sigmund Freud, The Vol 19: "The Ego and the Id" and Other Works v. 19 (Paperback)
If you are interested in Freud and his psychology this is a good book to begin with. It is quite readable well expounding the usual Freudian theories e.g. psychoanalysis, dream theory, sex, more sex and err! even more about sexually related matters. Practically everything wrong with the neurotic, according to Freud, can be traced back to a sexual origin. That's a bit of a sweeping statement I know but this is the background from which one should read his work. Jung, whom Freud hoped would eventually take on his mantle, disagreed with this aspect of Freud's psychology so that they went their separate ways. I would suggest reading both giants of psychology to get a balanced view. There's no doubt that Freud was a great observer of people and a pioneer in his field even if he is rather out of favour today. I think he still has much to teach us about the workings of the mind. On the other hand maybe he was wrong! Maybe they are all wrong. Even Jung found the human mind difficult to fathom.

This review is from: Complete Psychological Works Of Sigmund Freud, The Vol 19: "The Ego and the Id" and Other Works v. 19 (Paperback)
I would also like to purchase the remaining two volumes, vol 20 and 21. It seems difficult to do -- more difficult than I wish to cope with off hand.
of course I want these editions to continue being published. It seems they are already out of print as I couldn't get new copies from either amazon nor barnes and nobles. J. ripley |
