This beautiful book is a pleasure to peruse and would be a great present for any craft lover. (Westmorland Gazette )
The definitive sourcebook and practical guide to this craft, written by one of the world's foremost practitioners in the field. (English Garden )
Howarth's book may well inspire you to design a pebble mosaic or two for your own garden. It'll certainly make you look more closely and appreciate any mosaics you come across. (Scotsman )
Perhaps it's because the individual building blocks of a pebble mosaic are so small and manageable, or perhaps it's because Maggy Howarth makes the process seem exclusive and yet achievable, I defy anyone to read this book and not come away with the itch to have a go for themselves. (Professional Gardener )
Something completely different, and made me wish there were more hours in the day to take up this fascinating craft. (Let's Talk )

This beautifuly illustrated book contains pictures and ideas from all over the world. The book is organised into three well designed sections, covering first the "core techniques", then "around the world" and lastly a "gazetteer of design ideas".
The first section shows you everything Maggy has learned about making these beautiful artworks over the years and how to apply that to your own designs. Secondly Maggy shows you her own work, and that of all the other artists she has contact with from over the world; including ancient works from China, Europe and America. Then Lastly all the various design ideas are collated into an easy to browse section which is invaluable as a work reference.
The appendices contain contact details for all the other artists who are featured, details on where to find all the hundreds of works featured in the book as well as an index.
Maggy has Generously given a great many artists' work exposure here as well as giving the rest of us everything we would need to begin making our own designs except the pebbles.
This is a lovely book to have, whether on the coffee table or in the workshop.
Just a quick comment - I've seen other pebble mosaic books and this really does seem like the bible. Other people I know who've actually made mosaics (rather than drooled at the pictures like me) say the same. Probably not worth looking elsewhere - just get this; she really knows her stuff.
Even though I'm not really into pepple mosaic I found this book great! For me it contained ideas and inspiration for ordinary mosaics. I think I like the style of pebble mosaic and I defenitely like the style Maggy Howarth picks, even though her book contains a wide range of motifs. Ther book is divided to 3 parts: the first is core technique where she thoroughly describes techniqes wit examples. Second is a chapter with pepple mosaics around the world, both classical and contemporary. Third is a long chapter with splendid photos (well the whole book contains splendid photos) for inspiration. I ca ndefintely recommend this book!
This book is timeless and just a joy to own. The skill of the writer are just amazing and give inspiration to all who wish to try and develop mosaic pebble skills. This does not disappoint.
Lots of lovely examples, from near and far, incorporating a variety of styles. Good practical tips for getting started - now all I have to do is find the pebbles!
A wonderful book which could easily be classed as the encyclopaedia of Pebble Mosaics. I bought it on Amazon having read the other reviews, and they are right. This is the bees knees of Pebble Mosaics, and this one book really does have it all. There is so much in this book that you will be fascinated by, that you will probably be reluctant to put it down. The photos of mosaics from all over the world could also be used as Travel guide, and would certainly be worth consulting before going on holiday! A wonderful book which will surely inspire! I am itching to have a go at making my own pebble mosaic, and the instructions in this book are so clear that I will be doing so. In fact, having delved into this book, I am also tempted into going on a course run by the Author. This book suits any level, whether you are interested in making your own mosaics, whether you are skilled at mosaics, a professional artist or simply enjoy looking at lovely photos of mosaics from around the globe. Thank you Amazon for your amazing price of £16.25.
As a complete beginner I chose this book to inspire and teach me how to acheive a pebble mosaic. The various techniques are clearly explained so that the best method can be chosen. The photography is superb and the artistic insight into how the best can be acheived marks this artist-author as the top of the field. The design ideas are beyond any expectations I might have had. What is unexpected is the desire now to seek out the work described on a tour of Britain and to incorporate something more beautiful than I had previously imagined in my own garden spaces. Being hardback it is lovely to hold and use. Nothing less would do.
If you only read one pebble mosaic book this is the one.
Bought as a gift. Wonderful designs and instruction on how to create outdoor pebble mosaics. Bought mosaic books before but they dealt more with glass and smaller projects. Some real outdoor paving projects in here.
