This book covers drawing, watercolour, acrylics and oils within those covering all the basics of line, colour, composition, perspective without being overwhelming.
It is packed full of projects and well illustrated with each project broken down, using thumbnails, to show each stage. Makes you want to get going straight away. I also like the fact there are 'gallery' examples from established artists.

Too Many Parts!,

I love my watercolour workshop books by Glynis Barnes Mellish but i am less happy with this book incorporating part of her previous editions. Not because the material is bad, but because it is now too heavy and too unwieldy to take out on site and even difficult to keep open on a table because it is so big the pages flip back - the copy, photos and other material is all fine - it just needs to be unbound again and sold - as it used to be - in separate pieces!

There are so many painting/art how to books to choose from; what to choose? I have always done many crafts but not so much with any type of drawing. I have just found that I CAN paint! What I don't know are the basics.
I first found the Complete Painting and Drawing Handbook at the library among dozens of how to books. This book covers all types of media used in drawing and painting. I saw that there were so many mediums and tools that I have never been exposed to. This is a very colorful book, and I was impressed at how complete it was in the description of all the essential tools and how and when to use them. There are step by step projects in each medium, and they look very easy to follow. Looking at all of them, I believe I can end in a successful picture. I realized because this book was so complete in so many painting and drawing mediums; that this was a book I needed to own! |
