Product Description

Product Description

Jane Austen is perhaps the best-loved of all English novelists. Her knowledge of human nature is remarkable and her awareness of the importance of class, money and appearances makes her a peculiarly moder author. She addresses the politics of dating, courtship and mating with an incisive intelligence that both foresahdows and outstrips romantic novels of today.

About the Author

Jane Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire. She was the seventh child of the local rector and her life was, by modern standards, uneventful. In 1801 she moved with her parents to to Bath, but returned to Hampshire when her father died, settling in the village of Chawton, near Alton. She remained there until 1817, when she moved to Winchester to be near her doctor. She died that year aged forty-one and is buried in Winchester Catherdral, which contains a plaque to her memory. Four of her novels were published anonymously in her lifetime and two more, one of which was Persuasion, appeared posthumously. Jane Austen never married.

A good present 6 July 2009
Format:Hardcover
I bought this as a present for a friend who loves Jane Austen's books. The illustrations are beautiful and the text is a good size. The book is large (obviously since it's the complete novels!) so probably ends up being flicked through and appreciated rather than read while curled up on a sofa. A book to keep.

Wonderful Book 19 May 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a wonderful edition to my Jane Austen collection. The typeface is clear and the paper is of a good quality. The illustrations are delightful. The book was prinrted in China but this has not affected the quality of the collected works.
Any Austen fan would be proud to have this book on their shelves (providing the shelves are deep and high enough of course).

Boolk Club 27 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
I recently joined a book club and our first decision was to read the classics....Jane Austen being the first, so i decided to order all the books in one as opposed to buying them individually. I have just read Sense & Sensibility and thoroughly enjoyed it, a complete change from all the academic books i read. Would definately recommend this to other readers.
