Excellent storyline and great artwork. This graphic novel stands out as it takes the concept of superhero more sarcastically and manages to entertain and incite you throughout the novel. Quite a page turner, Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Major Bummer is a Major Enjoyment 5 Nov 2011
By Joao F. Bettencourt - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I hate spoilers, so I'm not giving you any.

Great title. No fill in artists, no crossovers and no overhype. A fun title with great, fun characters. The writing is crisp, as is the artwork. Good laughs. The hero is a complete non-starter, but the writer has a very clever way of explaining how he gets involved in these outlandish situations. It's comic book logic, but come on, it's a COMIC! The last arc of the book gives it a sense of closure while leaving it open. It's a Major Bummer there is only one volume of this.

The only real drawback of this book is that the references are very dated. Obviously, Y2K and Spice Girls haven't been relevant in some time.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious with stunning visuals. 12 Oct 2011

i ignored it when it first came out, but realized it was one of the funnest, best drawn comics in the late 90s! it still feels timeless with sharp witted dialogue and an art fusion mix that makes it supreme in a lacking genre. Do not delay, buy this item!!! it's better than hunting down all those old issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Gem 12 Sep 2012
By punk head - Published on
It's unfortunate such a well written, beautifully illustrated and witty comic book came out in the late 1990s when the industry was still recovering from the speculator boom and bust. Comic books weren't selling anymore and titles were dropping like flies. This was one of them.
As good as the writing is it's the artwork by Douge Manke that really shines. The man knows how to draw detailed backgrounds and gorgeous women and there's absolutely no single panel where the art looks flat. He's a master at his craft and severely under-rated. I can think of only a handful of artists who can draw better than him.
It was short lived and could've gone on for a few more years and build a legacy like Preacher or Transmetropolitan. The story has an ending, a satisfying one, too, although it felt rushed. I'm certain the writer knew the book was gonna get killed somewhere around issue 12 or 13, but that's just my guess.
