5.0 out of 5 stars Setting the standard in Art Books for the Kindle 30 April 2012
Verified Purchase
Owning most of the Delphi Classics "Complete Works of . . .", and knowing they have set the standard for complete compilations in Kindle (and epub) format by single authors (Shakespeare Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Illustrated), Dickens Complete Works of Charles Dickens (Illustrated), Austen Complete Works of Jane Austen (Illustrated), Twain Complete Works of Mark Twain (Illustrated), Conan Doyle Complete Works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Illustrated), Verne Complete Works of Jules Verne UK (Illustrated), Hardy Complete Works of Thomas Hardy (Illustrated), Trollope Complete Works of Anthony Trollope (Illustrated), etc.) at almost give-away prices, I was intrigued to see they had launched a new series "Masters of Art", kicked off by Vermeer, Van Gogh Works of Vincent van Gogh (Masters of Art) and da Vinci ... 5.0 out of 5 stars great new departure for Delphi 17 Feb 2012
Verified Purchase
Having bought most of the literature compilations Delphi have produced, I was interested to experience their new venture into art books. Leonardo Works of Leonardo da Vinci (Masters of Art) and Vermeer have been covered at time of writing, and, though both are best appreciated on the PC Kindle application (needing colour, obviously), or on the Kindle Fire, if and when it comes to UK, they are a useful addition to the library. The pictures are arranged in chronological order, with informative, unpretentious commentary on each painting. The e-book also includes reproductions of details from the paintings highlighted in the commentary, and (typical of Delphi's enterprise) of paintings from other artists having a demonstrable influence on the work under discussion. This is an excellent way of getting to know an artist's work, neither patronising nor over-scholarly, and I look forward to collecting future productions in the series.
