Product Description

Product Description

The essential photographic guide to Ireland's wildlife. Complete Irish Wildlife describes almost all the mammals, birds, fish and butterflies of Ireland likely to be encountered by the keen amateur naturalist, as well as all the common and widespread flowers, trees and shrubs. With over 1,000 colour photographs, this comprehensive guide illustrates every species described. The introduction by Ireland's best known wildlife expert, Derek Mooney, sets out where you can find the best of Irish wildlife. Reptiles and amphibians, insects and spiders, molluscs and other invertebrates are also featured, and species are organized taxonomically. Each section is coded with a symbol for quick reference and species are grouped according to natural relationships and similarities. With its handy format and PVC wallet, Complete Irish Wildlife is a book no nature lover should travel without.

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, 19 Jun 2007
This is the sort of book you will return to time and time again. It has sections on: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, Fish, Amphibians, Insects, Spiders, Molloscs, Crustaceans, Trees and Shrubs, Wild Flowers, Water Plants, Grasses, Fungi, and more! Each entry comes with a good quality photograph.

It is great for use with children in schools or out and about in the countryside.

It would be very useful to anyone doing Mountain Leader courses to familiarise themselves with the flora and fauna of Ireland.

Although specifically written for Ireland I would think that this would be very useful on Mainland Britian as well, although some creatures of note that would be missing are snakes, moles and woodpeckers, none of which appear in Ireland!
