3.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Repeat of One Volume "Roman Empire" by Same Author 18 Jun 2013
By Richard N. Huizenga - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Caveat em tor. This book is disappointing because it is precisely the very same content, down to the exact same total page count, as the author already published in a one-volume soft cover book under the title of "Roman Empire". Yes, it has no "The". The contents of this earlier book are merely split in two and bound in hard cover under a different title and sold for twice to three times more. Once I discovered this publishing slight of hand I immediately returned the 2 volume version for a refund. The soft cover version I originally purchased is my favorite history book on the Roman Empire. The author's style is very readable and the encyclopedic format is very enjoyable for casual yet informative reading. But it stops with the fall of the Western Empire. I was hoping the 2nd book of this set continued on with the 1000 years of the Byzantine Empire. Sadly it doesn't.

I wouldn't expect that thick this set would be but i like it. The books are very explaining and useful for every use. I am an architecture student who bought it as a reference for my history of art lessons and it'll definitely very useful for me!
