More About the Author

Nigel Cawthorne is the author of some eighty books - and a major contributor to at least twenty more. He lives in a flat girlfriends have described as a book-writing factory in Bloomsbury, London's literary area, and writes in the great British Library, which is supposed to be one of the best pick-up joints in London. However, his reputation is such that people will tell you he is more often seen drinking in Soho's famous bohemian watering hole, the French pub - still known to some denizens as the Yorkminster - with a beautiful young woman on his arm.

This is a super book, packed full of information, with a large number of photographs and diagrams. I would highly recommend it. Just one comment which prospective buyers should note - in order to provide such a concise history of the Lancaster Bomber in one book, the text has been made very small. Anyone with an eyesight problem might struggle with the print size.

The original title of this book was 'Lancaster: WWII Night Bomber and Dambuster'. This title reflects the content far more accurately than 'Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia'. I guess for only £6.99 one shouldn't expect too much, but on the whole, I was disappointed with this book. I had hoped to see Squadron listings, serial codes, etc., plus a lot more technical info.

Bought this for my dad who has a great love and interest in Lancasters. He rates it highly, said that although it's a realtively small book there is not only a lot of information in it but also some things he didn't previously know (he knows a lot!). He was really thrilled with it.

This book was not quite what I expected. I was looking for a book on the aeroplane itself, but this book is about it's wartime operations.
It is a very interesting read, & contains lots of information about the raids on Germany, but not what I wanted.

This Encyclopedia was very much appreciated by a friend who was in WW2 in a Lancaster Bomber. It would also be of interest to anyone interested in planes or WW2

I was quite dissapointed with this book, as there was an awful lot of information about other types of aircraft and little about the Lancaster in comparison to those.
After all the book title is LANCASTER BOMBER.
