A key title in the successful Complete Guides series, this is the definitive text on using free weights for strength, conditioning and flexibility training. I am a personal trainer and gym instructor and was looking for another reference book for my collection. This is a very good introduction to training with free weights and it will stay on my bookshelf rather than in the back of the cupboard. It can be read from cover to cover in the first instance and then refered back to later. You probably won't need it though if you have worked in the industry fro some time.

I think this is a very good book.

(1) it goes in-depth into probably any free-weight exercise you can think of with pictures and description

(2) it has a very good first part on the benefits of free-wiehg training and a very generous back section that goes deep into program design.

This is high quality, no-nonsense and for the first time in my sporting life, this has got me to thinking positively about weight training. I met the author at a speach he gave where I work and was impressed by the depth of his knowledge and his enthusiasm. This book is a great reflection of Graeme!

A very well-constructed and informative introductory manual to weight-training. I was particularly impressed by the depth of background information behind every section. Unlike some modern (and historical) books of this type, the author supplies you with all the information you need. You then have to decide what approach to weight-training you want to take.

It is obvious from the style of writing that the author cares about his subject and is dedicated to passing that feeling on to his readers.

If you just want a book that tells you what to do, don't buy this one.

If you want a book that tells you how to choose why, when, what with and how many times you train - this is perfect.

The thinking person's weight-training manual. I took delivery of this book today and I have already speed-read it once. I look forward to beginning to work with it on my next training session, tomorrow morning.
