5.0 out of 5 stars Great for every aspect of applied music! 16 Sep 2004
This book has just been a joy to read. R.Davis describes the art of music to picture by not only describing the mechanics, aesthetics and business side of the business but also touching on the history of music to picture and how it is that we as musicians (and to an extent filmakers) have arrived the point we're at today. The interview section at the back of the book is just the icing on the cake! Highly reccomended!

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-buy book for any wannabe composer 20 Oct 2002
By A Customer
An excellent work delving deep into the heart of the film and television music industry. This book contains everything that the newcomer needs to know in order to have a fighting chance of getting anywhere in what is considered one of the world's most cut-throat businesses. There is also information pertinent to the professional composer or film buff - its use as a reference book should not be underestimated.
The interviews with various composers also make the whole idea more real - there is nothing better than hearing it from the horse's mouth.
In all, anyone interested in the music of films should consider buying this book seriously. And no, Amazon aren't paying me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for any wannabe film composer 11 Jan 2005
This book is very good for learning the ins and outs of the industry, such as how the composer collaborates with the director and producers etc. It is not a book for teaching you how to write music for films, however, it is very up to the minute and will teach you everything you need to know about the technical side fo film scoring. It was bought for me as a gift but I would definitely buy it if I'd known about it sooner. It's a brilliant book, for both beginners and people who are familiar with the ins and outs of film music. Everyone will learn something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration in the form of a Book 11 Feb 2002
This book is absolutly the best thing i have ever Seen or Read. It explains everything from the very first years of Music in a Motion Picture through to the Business aspect of score making. the Book teaches you other aspects of the Film, regarding all the people involved in the making of the final version of a Motion Picture, all thier repsective responsabilites and the way in which they all come together as a team. Included in this book are interviews with Film & TV composers, about how they started in the business, what they have done, accomplished and tips on what the aspiring composers should do. If anyone out there is intrested in becoming a Film/TV composer then this book is a must. Be-Aware tho that the Business aspect the book refers too is mainly based in Los Angeles, New York, Mainly Hollywood. The principles are the same whereever you are but there is a relationship with Hollywood and Film's as we all know that play's a major part in the business side of Composing, that aside this book has inspired me to fufill my dream of composing a score for a Motion Picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book 16 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a good summary of the film industries machinations whilst putting music onto film. It gives a good over view of the history of film music and the need for music on film. If your are looking for how to write music get another book as this is about the business side and presentation of music to those in the film industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 17 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had a Dissertation due in based on the effect that music has on the motion picture... and this covered near enough, EVERYTHING! I havent read the latest edition which is like £10 more than this earlier release however i cant imagine there to be too much difference.
Great Book all in all, especially for the price... Recommend it!
