This book reads like a text book and I used it myself as part of my education and certification into training women during and after pregnancy. A new mother would be better suited looking elsewhere for a quicker guide to what to do and when as I have myself passed it to clients with newborns as a point of reference and in all cases they were a bit intimidated by the detail and rather be told what to do. That's not to say it won't be suited to new mothers but it's greater purpose is with fitness professionals. To that end, it details points to consider after pregnancy and how to gradually retrain the body back to peak fitness without setbacks. Well written with good illustrations and all points considered.

As a regular gym-goer and semi-fit runner I was keen to know how I could get myself safely back into shape after birth and found this really useful in helping me to understand the changes that had taken place in my body. It is quite an "intellectual" read I suppose as it goes into great detail about the names of various muscles and their purpose, with diagrams, but also explains how your body has changed during pregnancy.

If you are prepared to plough through the theory section then there are lots of simple exercises with diagrams for getting your abs and core strength back, improving posture etc. It also tells you how to approach different activities like working out in the gym, running, BodyPump style classes etc.

Recommended for anyone not wanting to fork out for a personal trainer or who can't get one-to-one advice at the gym. Invaluable for those first few months after birth.

Excellent post pregnancy fitness book 23 April 2010

This book helped me to understand a lot about the changes that go on during pregnancy to understand why/how post natal exercises should be modified. I wish there were a book as complete as this for use during pregnancy. This book is excellent. Read it before the baby is born because it has a lot of data to go through!
