This book has just been a joy to read. R.Davis describes the art of music to picture by not only describing the mechanics, aesthetics and business side of the business but also touching on the history of music to picture and how it is that we as musicians (and to an extent filmakers) have arrived the point we're at today. The interview section at the back of the book is just the icing on the cake! Highly reccomended!

An excellent work delving deep into the heart of the film and television music industry. This book contains everything that the newcomer needs to know in order to have a fighting chance of getting anywhere in what is considered one of the world's most cut-throat businesses. There is also information pertinent to the professional composer or film buff - its use as a reference book should not be underestimated.
The interviews with various composers also make the whole idea more real - there is nothing better than hearing it from the horse's mouth.
In all, anyone interested in the music of films should consider buying this book seriously. And no, Amazon aren't paying me.

This book is very good for learning the ins and outs of the industry, such as how the composer collaborates with the director and producers etc. It is not a book for teaching you how to write music for films, however, it is very up to the minute and will teach you everything you need to know about the technical side fo film scoring. It was bought for me as a gift but I would definitely buy it if I'd known about it sooner. It's a brilliant book, for both beginners and people who are familiar with the ins and outs of film music. Everyone will learn something.
