Yes the title is misleading as it is a guide to coloured pencil techniques that improve your 'technique' that is by no means exhaustive or complete. You will still need other reference/teaching books but it is good as a method of self instruction as this art medium is hard to find in good inexpensive art courses. The step by step instructions allowed to me to improve. They were clear and informative. Perhaps Professional Artists may know everything there is to know - but if you are a serious amateur and wish to take your art level up a notch using professional techniques then this is book for you.

If however you understand about blending, burnishing, tones and textures, creating whites in a subject and highlights on glass as well as everything there is to know about the techniques for laying down colour; how to create the best from your subjects whether its still life, animals or flowers then this is NOT the book for you! The projects in the second half of the book allow you to practice these techniques with additional tips; possible problems with reference material; notes to remember; and Q/A. This was on subject matter that covered a feather, flowers, cats eyes, birds, shells, hands and animals or a selection of silky materials. Each subject having their own problems to master. There was very little difference between the reference photos or the finished drawings. This book will give you scope of subject matter to practice and therefore improve your skills.

I was very disappointed with this book. The title "The Complete Guide to Coloured Pencil Techniques" is misleading as the book basically only covers one technique - repeated over and over with variations in colours and subject matter.

I am new to the art of coloured pencil techniques, and I found the contents of this book well set out, with comprehensive details of the materials and techniques in Part One. Part Two - Projects, has a good variation of subject matter, from animals and flowers to still life. These exercises were laid out with a few step-by-step easy to follow demonstrations.

There were also many tips, question and answer guides and references to problems that could be incurred. All in all a well thought out and executed book, which I would recommend to others.

A fantastic book. Yes, the author has one basic technique, which is to layer pencil colours, but what amazing results. She has taken things to a high level of refinement and yet her tips are clear and detailed. You can easily understand and quickly learn to produce good results yourself.

Which is the photo and which is the drawing? It's often hard to tell, except that her drawings usually improve on the detail shown by the photo.

Really inspired me and solved some problems with colouring that no other book has done.
