This book is a must for anyone serious about their abs, whatever their fitness level. It is clear and to the point on the subject. I have liked very much the the explanations on why certain abs exercises place undue stress on the lower back, and the importance of progression, acquiring strength in the abs before tackling taking on more challenging excercise. After reading this book, I will certainly avoid the 'risky' exercises. Anyone who has the 'legendary abs', will be familar with them. The explanation in the Complete Gude reaaly is more complete. I have also appreciated vey much the book's explanation of why posture, the pelvic tilt and the abdominal hollow are so fundamental.

At last a book that explains in great detail just what 'core strength' really is. It goes into great detail about the structure of the outer and inner layers of muscle that support your back and abdomen and then offers lots of useful information about exercises. Most importantly, it explains which exercises to concentrate on if you have had any back problems and which exercises are likely to cause more problems. I've completely changed my approach to abdominal and back exercise after reading this book and the improvement in both abdominal strength and reduction in back problems has been dramatic. Worth every penny.

I had it on my shelf for about 2 years and every so often would try and read it and extract exercises from it but just couldn't seem to distill anything useable from it. It had a lot of background information and a lot of exercises but no simple exercise plans. I suspect if I had been more knowledgeable I could have worked out my own plan but that was beyond me. The size of the book seemed to overwhelm me - it's very dense. However the product itself was excellent - well produced, good pictures, good quality layout, well informed etc.. I feel I over reached myself in buying it and should have gone for something a bit more for the lay man. Of course, I realise now - this book is specifically for trainers, coaches, athletes etc - and if you fit this profile - this would be an excellent book for you (hence the 5 stars). I'm just writing this to warn you off if you're are a beginner! (i.e. Make sure you read the description first.)
