Product Description

Product Description

"The Complete Guide to 20th Century Antiques" is timely, comprehensive and desirable: a full-colour guide to the fastest-growing area of the antiques trade, using retail prices as a guide to what you are likely to have to pay for that 1950s' kitchen clock, Eames chair, Susie Cooper plate, marcasite jewellery or art deco table lamp. A book for the e-Bay generation, this book will enable you to identify and value whatever you want to buy or sell. With over 4,000 objects, each illustrated with a colour photograph and description, and accompanied by details of size, guide price and date of origin, this comprehensive guide to modern antiques will be invaluable to every interested collector, buyer or seller.

About the Author

Martin Miller has been involved in the antiques business since the 1970s, when he started the Lyle Gallery. His first book, The Lyle Official Antiques Review, was published in 1970 and was an immediate hit. In 2000, Carlton and Martin Miller began to publish the first full-colour retail price guide, the Antiques Source Book. Martin also runs hugely successful hotels, and frequently appears on television.

A great buy, with a good selection of collectables covered. Fun to browse through as well as giving a good insight into various items collectability and the sort of price they should fetch.

This book is informative, well designed and easy to use.
My only grizzle is a lack of information on what maker's marks, backstamps and signatures were used on various pieces which could perhaps help identification of other, similar items. I do realise this addition would bulk it up somewhat and I know there are other books with this information, but it would be quite nice to have it all in one place.
I bought this in hardback and, not being in true touch with all my faculties, bought it again later in paperback, which was a bit daft.

Like his other books, far from being "A Complete Guide" you get just a load of pictures of items and prices which are usually totally wrong.

There isn't much guidance here.

I think he just lives off his wife's good reputation.

A con in my view.
He's just trying to make a quick buck and has not got much respect for his readers.
