I bought this complete works edition for Kindle, in spite of one very bad review from someone in Brazil, saying that there was no active table of contents, because I thought it was so cheap I really had nothing to lose. The Brazilian reviewer is quite right, in that there is no table of contents at all, let alone an active one, and thus the product description is misleading. However, it is possible to navigate between the various works in this massive collection - I found that if I went via "Go To" to the cover page, I could flip through the table of contents at the front of the book to find the book I wanted, and then each title in the table of contents is a functioning link to the right page in the book. So, while it's a bit cumbersome to use, it's not totally impossible to dip in and out of it. The text is better quality than I've found in some other free or cheap Kindle classic editions, with few typos, and so I think this edition is perfectly suitable for someone who wants George MacDonald's complete works at a very low cost.
As for the content: I spent a lot of my childhood reading Victorian fantasy classics (since many modern fantasy classics hadn't been written then, ahem!) and it is fun to revisit Curdie and the other better known works. I am currently reading"Phantastes", which, while a bit short on plot, has one of the best visually vivid depictions of a fantasy forest that I've ever read anywhere - the lush Victorian prose is not so dense as to be unreadable, but adds to the otherworldly atmosphere. I love the scene where his bedroom transforms into a forest - extraordinary to think it was written well over 100 years before most other scenes of the same type. If you are interested in the forefathers of modern fantasy writing, then I think this very cheap edition is well worth the money in spite of its drawbacks, and even though I doubt many people will read some of the more obscure novels it offers. It's a pity the publishers didn't bother to make a proper indexing system, though.

No table of contents 30 Mar 2012

This item is advertised as having an active table of contents, which is essential for an ebook of this size. However, when downloaded it had no table of contents, active or otherwise. To have to scroll through the entire volume in order to find a particular book would be extremely tedious, so I returned it for a refund.

Table of Contents IS Here! 16 Dec 2010

What a great thing to have all in one collection. There IS a table of contents, but it's not where it is supposed to be. For those who get this great collection, just go to the beginning of the book in the menu (there is no option for "table of contents" but it IS there). Once you're at the "beginning" of the book, just go back a few pages and you get right into a complete table of context with working links to take you to the beginning of whatever book you want.

Enjoy the complete works of George MacDonald all in one place.

There is a table of contents 2 Jan 2011
By Cindy - Published on Amazon.com
It is located just after the cover. When you first open the book you will be taken to the title page of the first story. Choose menu and goto then at the bottom select the book cover. Oncr you have got there just page forward once or twice and you will see it. I think it was at location seven. I bookmarked it since it was grayed out in my navigation screen.

George MacDonald should be better known. The Kindle Edition here is a real bargain for those who want to discover his writing...however navigation is a challenge.
