4.0 out of 5 stars Godsend!, 26 Jun 2002

This review is from: The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook: The Foods You've Always Loved without the Ingredients You Can't Have (Paperback)
This book was great for explaining alternaives to cooking without wheat/gluten and for other allergies. Only thing measurements were all in american cups, I think...doesn't make it easy to convert to grammes etc. or for using in a bread machine. Still great book though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The answer to your food allergy nightmares, 2 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook: The Foods You've Always Loved without the Ingredients You Can't Have (Paperback)
Discover new types of bread without wheat, the alternative milks available instead of dairy milk and how to identify foods containing corn, just to name a few, with this vast wealth of clear information, good advice and innovative recipes.

Practical help on setting up your own food diary to identify the types of food that cause your allergies, aswell as confirming those food groups that you already might know cause you discomfort and digestive problems.

New recipes are created from the old ones you may have long since thought useless because of the ingredients required to make them. With this book you no longer need to eat different meals from friends and family as you simply adapt them to suit your dietry limitations.

Clearly written and extremely well presented in bold script for ease of reading this marvellous book has become a valuable addition to my bookcase. The advice and information contained in this book has not only helped me improve my health and diet but has also assisted other members of my family and friends to come to terms with their health problems.

I found this to be a great idea as a gift for someone you know has not explored this method of dealing with this kind of problem. I highly recommend this book especially after purchasing the Eat Right 4 Your Type Diet by D'Adamo as this suplements the recipes for those you need to avoid certain foods. Since applying the methods in these two books my digestive problems have significantly improved and enabled me to be more positive in my approach to a healthy diet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Review, 5 Jun 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook: The Foods You've Always Loved without the Ingredients You Can't Have (Paperback)
I thought this book had some good recipes, however, I found that it was not appropriate for the food allergies that my son has. Some of the recipes have soy, egg or nut in them and all of these I must avoid for my son. If you are able to have these items then you may enjoy this book, however, if you are looking for a cookbook that offers alternatives to these allergens then you are better off seeking out another book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect starter book, 2 Jun 2001
By Mary Ann Wasser - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook: The Foods You've Always Loved without the Ingredients You Can't Have (Paperback)
This was the first book I got after finding out my son has multiple food allergies. It was a great help in learning to use all the different types of flours in baking and breadmaking. It was full of helpful information for substitutions in recipes, and every recipe in her book has a list of variations that can be used with that recipe in case you can't use it exactly as is. It also has examples of how to create new recipes from your old recipes using foods you aren't allergic to. I was so overwhelmed when I first found out my son was allergic to dozens of foods. I didn't think I'd ever learn to cook for him, but with the things I learned in this book I'm feeling much more hopeful and confident. As far as the main dish recipes in this book I haven't found much I thought my son would try. But, I learned so much about the basics that I can modify most of our old favorites now and we hardly notice the difference.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable for the gluten intolerant, 21 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Complete Food Allergy Cookbook: The Foods You've Always Loved without the Ingredients You Can't Have (Paperback)
I was looking for gluten free recipes, and was seriously disappointed by this book. Although there are a few gluten free recipes, there is nothing that can't be obtained elsewhere. For those seeking gluten free recipes, I recommend Special Diet Solutions by Carol Fenster, or any of the books by Bette Hagman. There are too many oats, spelt, teff and kamut in this book!
