This is a great introduction to the wonderful world of felting, everything is explained clearly so the beginner can understand, but there are great projects for experienced felters too. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in this tactile craft. The photography is beautiful and makes you want to start right away!

My compliments to Gillian this is the first felting book I have owned with adequate photos and description of how to felt. I have been felting for a few years but was never quite sure if I have understood the technique, thanks to you I now do! The projects are absolutely mouthwatering, don't stop at one book - please!

Was lookiong for a new hobby and came across felt making, purchased this book after reading the reviews and it does'nt disappoint.

Teaches you the basic techniques of wet felting, knitted felting, needle felting and more advanced techniques of cobweb and nuno felting. Step by step instructions including pictures for different projects including making a tea cosey, flowers, beads, booties, rug and a bag and each project is given a beginner, intermediate or advanced rating.

Plenty to keep you going and to inspire you to do more.

I made felt when at school and have always wanted to try it again now Im older and into my textiles alot.
I wanted a book that took me back to basics and introduced me to it all over again, so that I could re learn and pick up new ideas along the way.
This book did exactly that, its well laid out and is extremely informative. It has many sections that work you through the making process and equipment required to ideas and projects for you to try.
I also love that the design ideas and patterns etc are ranged from Beginner through to advanced.
Each project is clear, and easy to understand. It has a materials list on each one and a step by step guide to make the item.
I have not made anything yet, but am very excited to start.
An absolute bargain as well so should not be missed!!!

I'd just been on a felting course and bought this book because the projects look great. But aside from a couple of brief introduction chapters none of the projects have step by step photos until the very end with the advanced projects. An image for each step of the project instructions world have made a world of difference.
Another gripe I have about this book is that each project has a introductory photo and another one at the end - often these are the same photo!! And on the next page!! Surely a bigger close-up or a different angle could have been used!
Last complaint - the middle of the book is about knitted felt - about 25 pages worth. Most of this is about how to knit your project, bung it in the washing machine to shrink and then sew it together. I know this is also 'felting' and that this is the 'complete' book of feltmaking but I could have done without this whole section.
One of the other reviewers has an issue with the needle felting section. They're right - there is no mention of needle sizes anywhere - only that they can be bigger or finer - but no indication of which way the gauge goes, so not much help if you want to buy some! To answer someone else's question, there is a list of suppliers at the back of the book and, yes, the one I was recommended is there.
If I had not been on a course I would have been really baffled by this book. I also found more useful instructions by looking on YouTube.

To summarise: nice projects but I couldn't recommend as a beginners step-by-step guide.

I have tried lots of different crafts over many years and I do tend to get bored so was looking for something new. I met a lady some time ago selling felted scarves etc at a craft fair and I remembered how gorgeous they were - then I stumbled on this book and I am glad I did. It looks fantastic and as others have said the projects are all things you really want to do, unlike some project books which feature things you would never use in real life! (As in another book on sewing bags which I bought at the same time and which manages to stretch one tote bag pattern across most of the book!) I have to confess I have yet to start and the proof will be in the pudding, but having ordered my materials from one of the useful websites listed in the back of the book (all of which are still live by the way!)I cannot wait for next weekend!
