Feltmaking is an ancient craft, dating back to Neolithic times. It was discovered long before knitting or weaving, making it the oldest textile fabric. Handmade felt has an entirely different quality to the machine-made felt found in craft shops. It is often thicker, more hardwearing and can be made in a variety of designs and colours. Felt is naturally insulating, water repellent and it does not fray, so sewing is not required unless you want to add detail to your projects. Felt is very easy to make and requires little specialist equipment - all you really need is wool fleece, water and soap, and a special needle if you want to try needle felting. About the Author
Gillian Harris is a designer who teaches feltmaking on private courses and in schools. This is her first book. She also has a business making and selling special hand crafted bags for weddings and special occasions. Gillian is based near Guildford in Surrey, England.
