Product Description

Product Description

This reissue contains over 1000 traditional and country recipes, which were chosen from the many thousands sent in by viewers of the Yorkshire Television programme, "Farmhouse Kitchen". Recipes combine past traditions with present-day thinking, and represent the best of traditional British food. Wholefood is not new: good, plain home cooking from fresh ingredients is wholefood at its best, and these days more people are concerned with the quality of the food they eat, and are rejecting packaged and prepared dishes. Traditional recipes are ones which have survived the years, and they are brought up-to-date with new healthy versions in this book. Traditional country skills include: baking bread; making preserves, cheese and butter; and brewing beer and country wines. The recipes range from dinner party fare to everyday family meals. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

If you want a book filled with pretty colour plates for each recipe, this is not for you. But if you seriously want to produce good, tasty and varied food that easy to cook with receipes that are easy to follow, this is the book for you.

When my daughters leave home, they won't leave without this book (when, hopefully, it comes back into print!) Recipes from good, wholesome stews with dumplings, soups and pies to authentic Indian curries. Cakes, breads, pastires and ice-creams - all really simple recipes to follow from starters through to puddings.

For me, what makes the book is that the recipes come from many differencet sources, not just one cook/chef, giving it huge variety and tastes, making it my first book that comes to hand when I'm stuck for what to cook for a change or just need a reminder on a recipe I have been cooking for years.

This hardback edition was first produced in 1984 and I hope it continues to be reprinted for many years to come - my copy is so old and well used, you can almost taste each recipe as you turn the pages!

I was given this book by my mother in law and its the best present she has ever given me. It has tried and tested recipes most of them had been supplied by ordinary people, so theres nothing too complicated. Loads of real comfort food recipes fantastic cake recipes (that even I can make). If you love good honest British food then you'll love this book. I recently lent the book out to a friend and she loved it, I almost had to prise it out of her fingers as she loved the jam recipes. I've tried to buy her the book as a present but its out of print. What a shame. If you ever see this book, buy it! you won't regret it

I have a lot of cookery books but this one is exceptional. It is so useful, often with several different recipes for the same dish so you can try variations; and there are recipes for absolutely every occasion. I've never had a recipe come out wrong, following this book (which is more than can be said for some of the "Celebrity Chef" recipes that clearly haven't been properly tried and tested).

By far the best cookery book for the Credit Crunch and the return to proper home cooking, buy this one first. You won't regret it. Oh - and do give the Somerset Apple Cake a try, you will thank me for the tip!

**HINT** although out of print, I have managed to pick up 2 copies of this in Charity Shops so there are clearly plenty of them around.
