Product Description

Product Description
This aggressive counterattacking repertoire covers Black opening systems against virtually every opening except for 1.e4 (plus most flank games) based on the exciting and powerful Tarrasch Defense, which helped bring championships to Kasparov and Spassky. Black learns the Classical Tarrasch, Symmetrical Tarrasch, Asymmetrical Tarrasch, Marshall and Tarrasch Gambits, and Tarrasch without Nc3, to achieve early equality or even an outright advantage in the first few moves.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the very few books on the Tarrasch defence to the QGD, 27 April 2001
By A Customer
This book gets 4 stars as it is tackling a rare opening and Schiller puts some emotional commitment into his opening as he claims to have played it too. Some thought has gone into this book and this is not a bad effort [Schiller is criticised in the chess world for compiling his books via databases - and there is evidence of this here but it supports the understanding of the opening]. I keep looking at this book time and again to compare my play to what 'should' be done and that is good enough to recommend it if you want a defence to D4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and understand, 4 April 2001
By A Customer
I have always had problems playing against d4 players. I have been playing King's Indian Defence for a while without good results, d4 players know those lines very well. In this book, Eric presents good lines for the Queen's Gambit Declined, for the Tarrash variation. But that is not all, he shows examples of tactics for black and white, what to do once you have finished with the opening stage, what are white's options, general rules of the opening, how should black proceed, what are the objectives of the opening, etc. First, Eric gives you lots of very well explained background, once he has done that, he goes into more detail with all the specific lines. Eric is an excellent chess writer. I like his style, his books are easy to understand. His books are mainly aimed at club players trying to improve their game or intending to change their opening strategies from no previous knowledge on the opening. I recommend this book to players intending to built an opening against d4.
