4.0 out of 5 stars Good read 8 May 2013

A collection of stories all following the same theme, really. Full figured damsels, snakes and grotesque man-apes. This said, it is an enjoyable read and well worth buying if you like this genre. The only thing annoying about this collection is the number of type-setting errors. There's more than you would expect and queries whether it has been proof read properly.

I've always loved to read fantasy books, especially when they are as well written as the conan books and all of the others by R.Howard.

5.0 out of 5 stars complete conan 26 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Not complete as few of the short story's missing but if yr a fan of Robert e Howard this will appeal as it contains the majority of this body of work. Certainly takes me back to my youth. The story's are well paced and very well written and fit into the geo political history in the introductory section to create a very believable and likeable character.

4.0 out of 5 stars Often imitated, never bettered 30 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Some of the stories suffer from a lack of proof-reading, with typos abounding (such as 'Queen of the Black Coast'), while others are flawless. And maybe it's a bit much to read these stories back to back, as there is a certain amount of repetition due to their original publishing history as shorter pieces months or years apart.
However, anyone who likes the sword and sandal genre needs to read this, or at least a good chunk of it - the language is as opulent and full-blooded as the hero himself. Fabulous stuff.
And it's less offensive to a modern audience than you might expect....

If you like to dip in and out of the fantasy genre, without too much committment, then this compendium of Robert E Howard is for you. The Conan stories are timeless.
