5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Lindsay's Greatest Hits CD - At Long Last 6 Mar 2012
By gassy goon - Published on
Format:Audio CD
A CD of Mark Lindsay's solo hits and singles hasn't taken only years , but decades to be released. At long last, a label, Real Gone Music, finally took notice that a collection of all his solo singles from 1969 through 1975 was never ever done - until now. What makes this CD a revelation are all the many non-LP singles that have never even been available on an album , as well as on CD. The entire package is done expertly well, with every single A and B side, liner notes, packaging and clear sound. There are many highlights, and most listeners will have heard the eternally great ARIZONA and SILVERBIRD. But the other Top 100 singles like MISS AMERICA , AND THE GRASS WON'T PAY NO MIND and BEEN TOO LONG ON THE ROAD all have majestic arrangements and production, with lush orchestration, horns, and even electric guitar solos on BEEN TOO LONG, which is a particularly dynamic recording. This sound is just gone today, but listening to all these songs from this period makes you appreciate even more all the work that went into recording back then. All these decades later, we finally have the chance to hear these songs sounding fresh and atmospheric - real music played and sung by real musicians! This CD is a godsend by finally including songs like Mark's non-album singles such as PROBLEM CHILD, CALIFORNIA and PHOTOGRAPH on CD. Many of these songs are making their CD debuts. SOMETHING BIG is a Bacharach/David song, a bright, uplifting song that bares the songwriter's trademark sound , with a Lindsay vocal. Lindsay's solo work represents another side of his diverse music making. The Raiders are rock, his solo work runs the gamut from pop to easy listening to rock. Songs like ARE YOU OLD ENOUGH and MAMACITA are rock oriented songs that feature some double entendre lyrics, a thread which ran through much of Mark's songs with The Raiders. MAMACITA was recorded by Mark first in 1974 and released in 1975, with The Grass Roots re-recording it & hitting the Top 100 later in '75. The Lindsay version is much hotter , and no surprise given his penchant for rockers. This CD is everything you would have hoped and waited for. While every label that re-issued Paul Revere and The Raiders albums and compilations on CD - Columbia, Sundazed, Collector's Choice and Raven - somehow never got it that a solo Mark Lindsay singles collection was never done, and much anticipated - it took a brand new reissue label - Real Gone Music - to finally make this CD a reality. Even Sony Special Products didn't wake up and do a proper Lindsay CD. They only did a cassette - " The Best of Mark Lindsay " in the 90's with some of these rare singles, but inexplicably never released it on CD. The ultra-rare non-LP B-sides DON'T YOU KNOW, SOMEONE'S BEEN HIDING, and SONG FOR A FRIEND are all original Lindsay compositions and musings that were even harder to find, if you were extremely fortunate to find a stock copy of the 45 vinyl, and not just the promo A-side 45. So, for all those legions of fans who had to track down every white label promo 45 or stock copy of these hard-to-find singles, jump for joy for this Mark Lindsay collection that has been worth the decades of waiting for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Significant CD Release in 2012 25 April 2012
By Fantastic Voyage - Published on
Format:Audio CD
I enjoy and buy all types of music by all artists. CD releases of material originally released in the 60's and 70's are of particular interest to me. I have been buying these types of CDs for 25 years and I can confidently state this collection was done the right way. Very rare for me to state this, but so incredibly refreshing when it finally happens. The rare and previously unreleased single versions, in chronological order, including quality material and excellent sound, with nothing held back. A music lovers dream. That's why I can confidently state this is the most significant release of 2012.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Singer Ever 12 Mar 2012
By C. Hanford - Published on
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Finally -- the release of many wonderful cuts previously only available on vinyl. This collection demonstrates Mark Lindsay's great versatility as a vocalist, ranging from lyric ballads to hard-driving rock. It's a shame that the music industry so caters to teens and often neglects the proven talents of truly gifted artists who still have devoted fans. Mark has released newer recordings, always loved by his fans, but that deserve greater promotion by the industry that so profited from his early recordings.

This has to be the best CD I have bought in along time! The orchestrations are wonderful and Mark's voice is so fine! My absolute favorite is "And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind" , the words , music and his voice are so romantic . Love "Problem Child" and of course "Arizona". Wish he would record again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!! 17 April 2012
By jonny0 - Published on
Format:Audio CD
This cd to me, represents why Mark Lindsay belongs in the rock n roll hall of fame. I would put him in as a solo artist and as a member of Paul Revere & The Raiders. He is one of the greatest singers I have ever have the pleasure of listening to. Some of these tracks can be heard in other cd's but most of it is material that has never made it to digital format. Don't you Know, Someone's Been Hiding and most of all, Photograph are the gems here. This cd is so wonderful to listen to. I still think Reason To Believe is done best by Rod Stewart though. But, Mark Lindsay beats out Neil Diamond on The Grass Won't Pay No Mind easily. This is a great cd guys!
