5.0 out of 5 stars Classics 20 Aug. 2012

The complete works of Daniel Defoe is an excellent collection of an author whose writings are better known for just two or three novels. It is a collection like this that makes the Kindle such a powerful and worthwhile media, making important works available to a much wider readership at an unbelievably low cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Kindle edition 12 July 2011
By John Everard - Published on Amazon.com

This Kindle edition of Defoe's works is excellent. It has a good linked table of contents (which allows you to list the works in different ways), interactive footnotes, a biography of Defoe, and occasional illustrations (so for example in Journal of a Plague Year - which is strangely listed as a novel in the index - there is a map to show Defoe's London). I have not (at least yet) found any gaps or strange formatting. And it does seem to be complete - at least I am not aware of any significant work by Defoe that is not included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daniel Defoe, Engliand's first novelist. 7 Dec. 2012
By Harley L. Sachs - Published on Amazon.com

Robinson Crusoe is something everyone knows, but what about Moll Flanders? Both of these books have a measure of social criticism you might not expect. When Robinson Crusoe, after being marooned for years, finally finds another human being, he name him Friday, makes him a slave and a Christian in one fell swoop. Bawdy Moll Flanders is little more than a slut, but she always says no once, and even "marries" her brother, but in the end she repents, so all is well. You have to laugh at this. I added this to my Kindle to replace part of my extensive library lost when I sold my Michigan home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hanging together 2 May 2013

What a great collection! I wanted to re-read Robinson Crusoe and then discovered Moll Flanders and the rest. I bet the U.S. Founders had read Moll Flanders and that Benjamin Franklin alluded to the book when he made his statement about hanging together. Bert

5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Daniel Defoe Collection: Kindle edition. 29 Nov. 2014
By Phil Scott - Published on Amazon.com

This is an excellent compilation of all of Defoe's writings, including little-known works of high value as well as the usual suspects. I particularly enjoyed his sarcastic lampoon on the [at that time] recent revision of the onerous Poor Laws passed by the British Parliament.
5.0 out of 5 stars love Robinson Crusoe, worth the price of this collection 29 Mar. 2015

A big fan of Robinson Crusoe since I was a child. Had to re-read again. Same effect as a child. Loved the story all the way up until Crusoe left the island and returned to civilization. Then he started trading money for goods, found a nice house, blah, blah, blah. I lost interest. Have read Crusoe about 3 times in the last 40 years. It's a classic. Gives much context of the times and the slave trade, particularly from Crusoe, a white slave owner indifferent to the suffering of slaves. A trader and farmer, Crusoe lived a life you can call mundane at times but very exciting at others.

I felt sorry for Crusoe after being stranded on the island for so many decades. Glad to see him leave and become a bit more enlightened and appreciated of life and other human beings. Haven't read much else from Defoe, bought this for Robinson Crusoe.
