I love this book! 2 Sep 2010
By Sarah
I took up pottery about eight months ago and have become slightly addicted! I have bought a few books on pottery and ceramics and this is one of my favourates. Some of the other books i have read are quite dated in the designs and decoration of the pottery. However, this book is contemporary with lots of lovely designs to have a go at. Some of the designs in this book are still a bit beyond me but there are some basic/beginner items to make but also there are the more advanced items to work towards. This book is not the best for explaining the techinical side of pottery and if this is what you are after you would be better investigating some of the other books available. But if its contemporary design ideas you are after or just some inspiration then this book is perfect.

it's ok... 9 April 2011

Bought as a teaching resource for a pottery department. Some good ideas. Well set out with beginners, intermediate and then advanced projects. It's all very white. I don't really know why I can't bring myself to like it more, maybe because it is just very similar work throughout and some ideas our students will never do like make their own slip cast moulds, so some of the book is no good to us. Also has a lot of white paper with a few images on a page so looks thicker than it needs to be! But otherwise it does have some good suggestions for people who struggle to come up with something to do.

Lovely book but not the best "how to"; disappointing 4 Mar 2009
By M. J. Piazza - Published on Amazon.com
This is a lovely-to-look-at book, but it is lacking in the organization and illustration of instruction. For example, there are 15 steps described in the "spring green cup and saucer". In 10 of the 15 steps, you are referred back to a technique on another page. There is one photo for the project which is a top view of the finished cup and saucer. There is no side view of the cup so that you can see its actual shape and the shape of the handle. All of the photos are aesthetically beautiful, but some of them don't show the entire piece. For me, it would be very frustrating to try to use this book. There are other books which provide much more complete instruction. I was disappointed.

It covers porcelain. Just from what covers shows, I thought it about paperclay, but this book has more versatility. It has many creative ideas. Thanks.
