About the Author
Andy Sparrow began caving in 1971 and is one of Britain's most experienced cavers and instructors. He has been involved in the exploration of new cave systems in britain and has descended several classic deep caves in Europe. Andy is also an award-winning filmmaker whose work includes 'Sold' and 'A Rock and a Hard Place'. Andy runs a training company, Andy Sparrow Caving Services, and caveclimb.com, an equipment shop for cavers and climbers. Resident - Somerset

Format:Library Binding
A very good book for the beginner. I bought this book because I needed more information about knots, tackle and general techniques. Climbing and descending techniques are discussed, along with a great emphasis on safety.
Do not buy this book if you want a guide or anecdotal discussion on the longest caves etc.
This is a straightforward reference for anybody who goes caving or potholing.

Sparrow has produced an excellent all round manual for the novice and experienced caver. A wide range of topics are covered in sufficient depth to be both informative, and interesting.
Anyone considering taking up caving would be well advised to purchase a copy of this book. Similarly, anyone currently involved in caving is bound to pick up or brush up on some techniques and practices.

This was a birthday gift for my brother in law, who enjoys potholing/climbing.
I kept going back to this particular book as it seemed to have a little of everything that could interest him and apparently, it did. Its a book he can go back to at any time, so has been well worth the buy..
