I bought this book for my 9 year old niece's birthday. She has just started horse riding and has apparently read the book from cover to cover and loved it.

This is a good book for children. There are loads of pictures (photos and drawings) which encourage children to look through the book and also demonstrate the points being made. The book covers all aspects of pony care and basic riding, extending to jumping and dressage. There is a fair amount about western riding which I found a little surprising- and perhaps un necessary - as it is a completely different style of horsemanship.
As an adult I found this book very appealing and know that as a pony mad child I would have loved this book, both reading it and looking at the photos and drawings.

I bought this for my 5 year old who has caught the Pony riding bug from her friends at School. We wanted her to learn about everything behind owning and riding a Pony before we committed to lessons for her. She finds the book easy to read, not too many big words and there are also plenty of pictures.

The book covers everything from types of horse thorugh to riding styles and eventually on to owning and caring for the horse/pony. I'm not an expert but this seems to be a very comprehensive yet digestible read for a young girl. The quality of the book is great, it's a paperback but as with all Usborne books the quality is high, glossed thick pages which don't get damaged easily.

All in all it's a perfect book for the purpose.
