The reason we started this project is the young married couples of our church community would be able to have standard measurements for all the old world traditional greek recipes that our mothers made but never had written exact instructions to make them. The second reason is that we were able to accomplish some wonderful projects for our Greek Orthodox Church with the donations

Married to a native of Greece for 26 years I have used many different Greek cookbooks and this is the best and most authentic I have found. This book was written by everyday cooks, not gourmets, the recipes are easy to follow and there is a section that tells how to work with phyllo, clean squid and other hints. There are recipes from many different regions and interesting little bits of history and information scattered throughout.

I WAS SO HAPPY TO FIND THIS BOOK. IT CONTAINS A RECIPE FOR A DISH I ONCE HAD ON VACATION. THE RECIPES I'VE PREPARED, SO FAR, HAVE BEEN VERY WELL RECEIVED AT DINNER PARTIES. A GREAT COLLECTION OF TRADITIONAL GREEK RECIPES.

The recipes are truly excellent. I cooked Moussaka using the recipe from this book and it tasted even better than my mum's recipe!
The book represents an attempt by St. Paul's cathedral in the US to create some form of recipe book so that Greek Americans don't forget their native recipes.

The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the instructions for some of the recipes could have been a bit clearer - but with some concentration this is not a problem.
