I see a couple of reviewers have described these as being 'cheap and cheerful'. I guess I know what they mean by this, but I think it does these terrific guards a real disservice! For the amazing delivered price, I was quite astonished at their very decent quality. The plastic used is nicely thick which makes them solid & stable and nicely secure when fitted. I've read reviews of some other budget guards being delivered 'folded up' as they were clearly flexible enough to be wrapped that way. No chance with these - any attempt to do so would damage them beyond use.
The finish is also surprisingly good - they have decorative ribs running virtually their full length, and the plastic has a quality 'satin' finish - doesn't look 'cheap' at all. A little 'flare' to the ends of the guards add to their neat design.
The metal 'L' brackets supplied are - as another reviewer has said - a tight fit, but that's a good thing as they'll never work their way loose once fitted. I used a short piece of wood as a 'drift' on the bracket whilst the receiving slots in the guards were supported on the edge of a table. Tricky, but use lots of repeated gentle taps with a hammer rather than a couple of big blows! Although plenty strong enough, once fitted the metal brackets can be bent easily if needed with a decent pair of grips so that the guards sit at the correct angle to match your wheels. The rear guard also has a clip at the end which fits over the frame's seat tube - doubly secure.
Another sign of decent quality is the way the fitting pack - angle brackets, hefty nuts & bolts and plastic spacers - were supplied in a proper printed card box. For such a budget price, you'd normally have these sealed inside a small plastic bag, or even running loose - and missing - inside the main bag!
Look no further - honestly. These are superb quality, very smart looking (see the helpful customer's photo above - thanks for that!) and pretty straight-forward to fit. On my wife's 26"-wheel Saracen mountain bike, they look like 'original equipment'.
