This is an excellent well written little booklet filled with hundreds of diagrams which fully lives up to it's claim to be a beginners book whilst being of interest even an experienced woodcarver.
It contains graded projects and describes the ways in which a variety of tools can be used to carve them.
I can thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is, or is thinking of becoming a woodcarver.

The perfect beginners book!

Mary Duke Guldan shows you how to get started carving without spending a lot of money. She suggests you begin with an affordable exacto type knife and a simple coping saw. Her patterns are wonderful and she even suggests ways to change and alter them to suit a variety of purposes. I recommend all of her books. Members of my woodcarving class study her books and use her patterns. I particularly like her Carving Animals book. I've just finished carving her cougar and it looks terrific!
