5.0 out of 5 stars simply beautiful, 16 Jan 2005
If you enjoy playing arcane spell casters this is a book for you. It introduces new prestige classes as well as updating old ones to the new 3.5 ed. It introduces three new classes the Wu Jen (which appeared in the oriental adventures) the war mage (which appeared in the minitures handbook) as well as the warlock (a completely new class which simply rocks!! Especially when they get too higher levels) :)

There is a large selection of feats to make your spell caster more unique as well as feats for non-spell casters and anti - spell casters! The dragon feats which can be taken by sorcerers are not only in character but more fun!! What more could you ask for.

One of my favourite chapters details how to roleplay your arcane spell caster, it looks indepth of the role playing potential of each specialist mage, presenting how a good and bad mage would act. This can give you a new spin on how you play your bulk standard wizard.

It also presents new organisations and monsters for those evil DM's to abuse! No really there is a small selection of monsters but they are handy non the less. So far this is my favourite of the complete series, and i highly recommend it too both DM's and Players.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Warlock is simply fun!, 3 Feb 2005
By Mr. R. H. Adams (Portadown, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book gives a new ranges of base classes: The Warlock (a class that has unlimted magical capacity but only a few choices of what to cast; a more extreme version of the sorcerer really using spell-like abilities called invocation), The Warmage (a sorcerer limted to only combat spells but does bonus damage with those spells) and the Wu-Jen (an an Oriental wizard class that learns secret abilites to grant specail meta-magic feats to a limted spell selection that doesn't raise the actual level of the spells itself; i.e. a 3rd level maximised fireball that stays 3rd level).

The new spells are reasonably varied allowing new possibilities and a new range of magic items and prestige classes are added to, all of a fairly humdrum variety, in fact, the only reason I gave this book 5-stars is because of the Warlock base class. I'm currently playing one in my gaming group and they are just so much FUN! True, your combat abilities are pants, true, your spell selection (which is effetively what invocations are) is VERY limited, but what you can do you can do as often as you want and the sheer joy of walking around with weird unknown powers that always appear dark and mysterious is great, every week the other players worry what your going to do, even though you are helping the party just like the other players, they can't seem to help but wonder what your up to....
