This is a magnificent edition of an old classic. As a child I had a copy of this book which, tragically, my mum gave to the school jumble sale. I was devastated at the time but all those lovely childhood memories have come flooding back. Favourite stories of mine include the `Little Match Girl' and `The Princess and the Pea' and the quality, and thickness of the book is just as I remember. I am delighted with my new edition and anyone who wants to spark their child's enthusiasm for reading should read them this book at bedtime just as my mum did for me.

I think a lot has already been said in previous reviews. You are NEVER too old to appreciate a fairytale. I wish I had read these years ago instead of now, at a current age of 45 years. They vary in length and theme, and would make a great bedtime companion for anyone who enjoys reading bedtime stories to young children.

With regards the value and presentation, I cannot believe I paid less than £6.50 for this huge book. With over 1,100 pages, hard back bound, blue edging to the pages etc it really is something that would grace any bookshelf.

The font size is just right, and the small b/w illustrations through add a nice touch. I appreciate they are not of the same standard as the colour version on the cover, but to be honest - I don't think the book should be marked down because of it. After all, it is the story I am after not the illustration.

Fantastic value. There are so many other books in the Wordsworth library collection to capture the eye, and I am proud to have 4 of them now.

Highly recommended. You will want to purchase a smooth/flat bookmark for this, as the thought of turning the corners over of the pages just does not bear thinking about.

This is back to basics: all Andersens fairy tales on very thin, bible-like quality paper, for a very good price. The illustrations are in black and white, also very basic. Therefore, this book is probably more suitable for adolescents and adults who want to read the stories themselves, rather than for reading them to smaller children.

Bought this book for my 10 year old and they have enjoyed reading the storys - would say it's more for older children due to the small text it is printed in.

One of beautiful set of books with a lovely old fashioned feel. This book is not for children - it's the original stories. Very different from the versions you are familiar with. Don't buy the thinking you'll be reading the Disney version - you won't be.

This is a fine collection of fairy tales, the edition is handsome and tactile, the pages are robust enough to stand up to repeated reading.
The stories themselves are a classic collection including the princess and the pea, the little mermaid and all manner of other well known and not so well known stories, children will be captivated by the charactors and situations.
The illustrations are not from the top drawer, but are functional and pleasent to look at.
I recommend all children own a copy of these tales, and this is a good first start.

This is a magical volume of fairy tales from the master storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. Illustrated throughout, it begins with 'The Tinder-Box', a story that captures the imagination of everyone who reads it, or has it read to them. This book plunges us into a well-crafted world of witches, talking animals, good and evil, family, friendships, deviousness and jealousy. There is murder, magic and morality here to frighten and inspire children of all ages. Read it if you dare!

The book is beautifully bound and was brought for a present later in the year, for the old stories to be remembered and treasured.
